About the Panelists…
Dr. Sioux McKenna
Sioux McKenna is Professor of Higher Education Research at Rhodes University, South Africa. Her
interests include what knowledge is legitimised by the academy and what is not, and who gets to
access this knowledge and who does not. She currently undertakes research on the university
rankings industry, the academic publishing industry, and the implications of artificial intelligence
for higher education’s role as a public good. She manages several international projects, focused on
democracy and the nature of knowledge.
Dr. Muhammad Imran
Muhammad Imran holds a PhD in English Language and Literature from Shanghai Jiao Tong
University, China. He currently serves as a full-time researcher at Prince Sultan University in Saudi
Arabia and holds academic appointments as an adjunct professor at Khazar University in
Azerbaijan and as a visiting professor at Daffodils International University in Bangladesh. With over
12 years of experience in teaching and research across Pakistan, China, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, the
USA, the UK, and Saudi Arabia, he has established a strong academic profile. He has published
more than 80 research articles in Scopus- and Web of Science-indexed journals and received
2500+ citations, with an h-index of 22. He also serves as Managing Editor of Khazar Journal of
Humanities and Social Sciences, Academic Editor for Sage Open, Humanities and Social Sciences
Communication, and PLOS ONE, and Special Issue Editor for the Journal of International Students
and Discover Education.
Dr. Shilpa Samplonius
Shilpa Samplonius is a senior lecturer and researcher at the NHL Stenden university of applied
sciences. Trained as a professional technocrat in econometric modeling in Indian Economic
services. I have extensive experience in the higher education field in the Netherlands. Earned
doctoral degree on Causes and consequences of international trade disputes, from global
economics and management, at the University of Groningen. The interest fields are international
and quantitative economics, International trade, and business, WTO and disputes, and
Macroeconomic trade-offs in Environment. Other fields of interest where I conduct sessions are
Free Trade and barriers across the globe, Increasing the quotient of culture, growth of regional
economies, and alternative models of economic growth.
Dr. Robert Kalima
Robert Kalima is a Centre Manager at the Centre for Open, Distance and eLearning (CODeL) at
Mzuzu University in Malawi. He has previously worked as the Student Support Services Manager at
CODeL. He has also worked as a lecturer in Instructional Media and Technology at Domasi College
of Education in Malawi. He is a science and mathematics teacher by training. Kalima’s research
interests include distance education, teacher education, and STEM Education. Kalima is a critical
proponent of epistemic justice in nontraditional educational contexts such as distance education.
