We are delighted to present David J. Smith in our first international interview in the series Conversation Outside the Box. David is a very special person, he dedicates his life to preparing people to perform humanitarian services in places of conflict and/or emergency. He is responsible for the Foreage Center, a non-profit entity where he develops his work towards building a peaceful society and preparing people to deal with the challenges that global crises impose on us. DAVID J. SMITH
Short Biography
David J. Smith is an educator, consultant, and career coach focusing on the fields of conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and humanitarian action. He is the president of the Forage Center for Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Education, Inc., a 501c3 not-for-profit that offers experiential learning opportunities for students and professionals. He was formerly a senior program officer and manager of national outreach at the U.S. Institute of Peace. He has taught at a range of schools including Georgetown University, Drexel University, American University and currently at the Carter School at George Mason. He served as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar at the University of Tartu (Estonia) teaching peace studies and alternative dispute resolution. David is a recipient of the William Kreidler Award for Distinguished Service to the field of Conflict Resolution given by the Association for Conflict Resolution. He has published Peace Jobs: A Student’s Guide to Starting a Career Working for Peace (Information Age Publishing, 2016) and Peacebuilding in Community Colleges: A Teaching Resource (USIP Press, 2013. David has completed course work with Coach Training Alliance and is an official member of Forbes Coaches Council. He also directs the National Community College Peacebuilding Seminar. David is a graduate of American University (BA), George Mason University (MS, conflict resolution), University of Missouri (Grad. Cert., positive psychology) and the University of Baltimore (JD).

Ele é o presidente do Forage Center for Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Education, Inc., uma organização sem fins lucrativos 501c3 que oferece oportunidades de aprendizagem experiencial para estudantes e profissionais. Anteriormente, ele foi oficial sênior de programa e gerente de divulgação nacional no Instituto da Paz dos EUA. Ele lecionou em diversas escolas, incluindo a Georgetown University, a Drexel University, a American University e atualmente na Carter School em George Mason.
